The cloud-versus-on-premise question is really a question about who maintains the system and where the data lives. Cloud attendance runs on a hosted server: you open a browser or mobile app from anywhere, updates and backups are the vendor's responsibility, and there is no server room to air-condition. On-premise attendance keeps the software and database on a machine inside your building, reachable only from your network unless you deliberately expose it.
Cost structures differ more than prices. Cloud is usually a lower upfront licence with a recurring subscription that includes hosting, backups, upgrades and remote access, which suits organisations with limited IT staff and multiple branches that must report to one dashboard. On-premise is a larger one-time cost followed by AMC, with no recurring subscription, and is often preferred where IT policy, data residency or internal audit rules require physical control of records — government departments, banks and some manufacturing groups.
Reliability is a design question, not a cloud-versus-local argument. Cloud deployments stay usable during a local outage because terminals buffer punches and sync later, provided the site has failover connectivity. On-premise deployments depend on the server, its UPS and its backup routine, so a disciplined admin and a monthly backup schedule are essential. Many organisations end up hybrid: on-premise for records they must control, cloud dashboards for management and branch consolidation. Whichever path you choose, decide it before installation, because migrating later means re-commissioning devices and re-mapping policies.
